One morning when Ty awoke, his leg was -- surprisingly -- not filled with stabbing pain. He sat up slowly, trying to keep his lower body as still as possible. There was the usual deep ache. But no stabbing! He laughed and punched the air. Today was going to be a good day.
He got dressed and hobbled out into the inn's kitchen to have a cup of coffee and some eggs, leaning his crutches on the table and hanging his hat on them. While he ate he watched the shadows move on the building across the street as the sun rose over the rooftops. When he was finished, he cleaned up and put his hat back on. His leg still felt pretty good. Ty decided that he was going to do something different today, something he hadn't felt much like doing yet: he was going to see someone.
Slowly he made his way down the street, whistling as he went. It took him a good fifteen or twenty minutes but he finally came to his destination, which was a small two-story house, and he rested for a minute or so before straightening out his shirt and hankerchief and leaning forward to knock on the door. He chewed on his lower lip and looked up at the second story window, waiting.
