Name: Ambrose Tyler
Nicknames: He is known exclusively as Ty.
Age: 26
Sex: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Personality: Ty is a polite, diffident man who treats the world as if he knows his place as a black person and is, if not pleased with it, at least resigned to it. It doesn't take him long to warm up to someone who's friendly, however, and he likes to tell stories and sing songs. When he has no work to do he can often be found outside the Red Skirt Inn's door playing his guitar. Ty is a cowboy who broke his leg a couple of months ago and is in town while he's on the mend. Deep down he harbors a fear that he will never fully recover enough to drive cattle again, but he puts on a brave face and makes the most of his time in Horsehead.
Apperance: A typical cowboy build, lean and wiry. Average height, a little on the short side, with proportionally long limbs. He keeps himself neat and clean and always wears his Stetson hat, as if to remind everyone that he's not an innkeeper -- not really.
Occupation: Cowboy, normally. Assistant innkeeper temporarily.
Family: Addy Tyler, his grandmother. Ned Tyler, his cousin.
Short History: Ty was born a slave and spent most of his childhood as a slave. His parents were sold before he knew them, so his family consisted of an elderly woman named Addy and her grandson, Ned, who became Ty's grandmother and older cousin. When they were freed after the war Addy remained working for their former master, saying that she was too old to start over. Ned and Ty attempted sharecropping. For several years they eked out a living, but it didn't work out and finally they had to call it quits. Ned went back to work with Addy, but Ty, a fourteen-year-old determined to be independent, set out on his own.
Eventually he got a ranch job mucking out stables. Here he learned to ride horses, and when he was good enough he became a cowboy -- he became a very skilled cowboy. For nearly a decade he was one of the important wranglers in the outfit. Out on the cattle drives the men had to depend on each other to survive, and such a thing tends to break down barriers; he was rarely treated differently because of his skin color. About two months ago while they were crossing a river there was a rainstorm, and in the ensuing flood they lost a lot of cattle and two horses, including Ty's. No one was killed but Ty ended up with a badly broken leg. He was taken to the nearest town to heal: Horsehead, Arizona. Now he's living at the Red Skirt Inn, helping the owner out to earn his keep.
